TOP DURMITOR REVIEWS!

There has of course as always been great write ups in the press regarding Montenegro and it’s beauty! However recently many press releases about on Montenegro have started to promote and concentrate on the north of the country; opposed to the southern coastline. They have highlighted both the fantastic scenery and activities that the national parks in the north have to offer visitors. The ‘Jetsetter’ website places Montenegro as their number 2 in the top destinations to visit in 2017, adding ‘Durmitor Natioanal Park offers views of peaks and glacial lakes that will sear themselves into your memory, if not your Instagram’. The Telegraph newspaper has placed Durmitor as number 4 in their top 25 places you need to visit in your lifetime in Eastern Europe. The blogging website ‘Best World Yet’ have an excellent article on Montenegro, quoting ‘In a place of such scenic beauty, I believe that pictures speak louder than words. Not even the most eloquent stanzas of poetry can do justice in describing Montenegro’. Lastly ‘Lonely Planet’ have done a fantastic write up on all the activities and cultural elements to be found in the north! So all in all the north of Montenegro, particularly Durmitor is now slowly but surely on the world’s radar!

STAR FILLED MOUNTAIN!

Recently three friends of ours from Riders.me spent the night on top of Savin Kuk mountain, the mountain which is situated nearby to our adventure base camp. Matija, Luka and Javork decided to do a time lapse video and take some amazing photos from the top of the mountain. With their tents packed they headed up the slopes with their tents packed to reach the 2,313 summit. The night air was very cold and high winds forced the adventure trio to take cover in the nearby ski lift hut at around 01.00 am; but the guys managed to take some fantastic photos and enjoyed the crisp sunset and sunrise, along with great skiing time on the way down! The nights at our camp bring incredible stars out for guests to gaze at and on clear nights the Milky way in the galaxy can even be seen! The beginning of spring has bought us lovely sunny weather and the snow is melting fast in Durmitor, perfectly in time for us to get everything together at our camp for a great 2017 season! We hope you enjoy their photos and see you all soon!

DURMITOR FOODIES

Zabljak is a great place to visit for food lovers, with plenty of excellent restaurants and cafes offering up great cuisines with different and varied tastes! There are many places to chose to eat, offering national cuisine restaurants, modern restaurants with modern menus and fast food, although most Montenegrin’s prefer ‘slow food’! 🙂 Typically you will find hearty mountain foods, which are meant to keep local people going throughout the year; this is normally meat based dishes, with local organic ingredients. The national cuisine of ‘ispod saca’ is slow cooked braised meats of tender lamb or veal with potatoes, the cooking process takes a few hours where the meats juices are infused with the potatoes and vegetables in a clay earth pot. This dish is served to our guests on our Lake and Canyon tour and it was a real hit with everyone! Our guests also enjoyed the food offered for free in Zabljak, this was the many berries available on treks, such as forest strawberries, black berries, blue berries and raspberries. Also Zabljak has many varied mushrooms which can be picked, and our guests made some wonderful dishes in the evening time at the camp, which were of course washed down with glasses of mulled wine!
